Progressivisim from the Grass Roots to the White House

OK guys since I'm the first one to be the TA- I'll give try to answer the questions that we're supposed to answer.

1. Who is writing?
I think this person who is writing the facts about the a lot of the grass roots people in history such as Jane Addams & Walter Raushenbusch was an outsider who has tried to be bias and just give the facts of the history.

2. Who is the audience?
The reader , us of coarse. The author is telling the story to the people who read the book.

3. Who do the writers represent?
I believe the writers in the case represent someone who could have be alive in that era of time. Someone who maybe benefited from things such as the Hull House, or some the strikes that took place for better rights for women. Also someone who would have agreed with some of the things that Teddy Roosevelt did while president- like the land conservationists, or the way hey let people know that the president still had "say" over all things in the country.

4. What is being said, argued and/or requested?
In my understanding what is being said is that for one that women should able to do the same work for the same pay, and there should be( was and are) activist who will do their absolute best to make this happen. Another thing being said in this chapter was talking about Roosevelt and how he let the "big" companies know that long run he had control over everything.

5 How is it being said, argued and/or requested?
Well for the part about women should be able to do the same work for the same pay it talks about how the WTUL's ( Women's Trade Union League) most notable success was the "uprising of the twenty thousand" when hundreds of employees of the Triangle Shirtwaist Company went on strike to protest low wages, dangerous and demanding conditions and management's refusal to reorganize their union. When the strike ended they did get more money and better working conditions but did not win the right to reorganize their union.
As for the part of TDR letting the "big"companies know that he still had control over everything an example would be when ordered the attorney general to begin a secret antitrust investigation of the Northern Security Company. After there had a been a controversial merger between the railroads and Northern Securties was the company that was basically left which in turn resulted in panicking farmers worried about freight rates. TDR stepped and inforced the the Sherman Act . Which in turn put all of wall street on "notice" that TDR presence will be known on Wall Street and everything should be ran according to the laws that were not strictly inforced in the past but will be now.

What proof and/or justification is being used to legitimize the request? I think my last answer, answered this question also
